Shami is primarily Syrian design, although it can be met across other Middle Eastern countries. The ongoing war in Syria was the last nail in the coffin of minimal production of kufiyas there. Now you have a chance to purchase this Syrian design but made in Palestine by Hirbawi. It has the same pattern as our traditional Red and White kufiya but in black and white.

What is Hirbawi Kufiya like?

Oh...Soft cotton. Most likely the biggest you can find, 47” by 47”, which is over 15 sq. ft. of awesomeness. Made on a custom kufiya loom and finished by hand.

I wear mine every day

I'm Irish, living in Québec city. I wear my Kufiya everyday when I drop my kids to school and to the creche and then going to work. It is as important today as it has ever been to show our support for Palestine. A Palestinian woman stopped me as I was doing my weekly shopping at the supermarket last week wearing my kufiya. She was in tears to see a westerner openly showing support for her people. I told her to never lose hope, that there are people out there who will not stand silent as Palestine suffers under modern day colonialism, apartheid and the constant threat of genocide. I'll also be wearing my Kufiya at the Saint Patricks Day parade in which I will be takling part, to underline my countries support for Palestine.
